Documentary Script

Big Fat Gypsy Weddings is a program that was shown on Channel 4 that explores the lives and traditions of Irish Traveller families.

[Clips of the program]

The program was very controversial as many gypsy families said that is was mis informing the public about their life style, and the program has been described as racially motivated bullying.

The biggest controversy was when the advertisement for the new series was "Bigger, Fatter, Gypsier" which caused many people to complain to the advertising standards authority.

The Advertising Standards Authority ruled that the campaign was irresponsible,

offensive and reaffirmed negative stereotypes and prejudice against the

Traveller and Gypsy communities.

Did you find the show offensive and why?
What were the repercussions of the program being aired

I think the reason people were so upset by this program was because it was exploiting people of an ethnic minority.
