Task 6 - Workbook

The ASA (advertising standard authority) regulates TV advertising in the UK

To make a complaint about an advert you can head over to asa.org.uk and click "industry" then "make a complaint", there are then instructions on the page to go about doing this.

In the video it shows several people saying a word beginning with F but it is bleeped out and the mouth is censored, what they are actually saying is the word "famine" but it makes people assume it's the swear word.

The advert was banned because it had themes of swearing, yes they censored it out and it turns out the word they were using was famine but later on in the advert they are swearing which would not be appropriate to show during the adverts.

I don't think they were right to ban this advert because at first you think they are swearing but then when you find out they're not it all makes sense. I can understand why parents would find this advert offensive as they wouldn't want their children to hear someone swearing but they have bleeped it out.

The advert is a for a good cause and it probably cost them a lot of money to make it and get the celebrities on so I think banning it is just a kick in the face for them because they're trying to do something good.

Swearing isn't offensive unless you're swearing at someone, which they weren't. And adverts should be banned in they're offensive and in this case it's not.

The advert is making a point about censoring famine and by banning the advert you are doing just that. By stopped these peoples voices being heard.
