The BBC

The BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) was founded by a man called Lord Reith (John Charles Walsham Reith) . 

It first started as a radio company, they got their first broadcasting place in 1932. It was one of the only two in Europe at that time.

They started in television in 1936 but had to stop when the second world war started. In 1946 they started broadcasting children's television and then in 1967 they had introduced colour television.

Since then we have developed over time with loads of range of media that has come from the BBC, we even have television on demand online from the BBC.

The BBC does not show advertisements unless it's government adverts (like showing people how they had to switch from analog to digital TV) or advertising other BBC shows. However in some BBC television shows they've introduced product placement, which is when you place a well known product in a show so that everyone can see it.

The purpose of the BBC is to inform, entertain and educate. They entertain by having tv shows, like The Office or Young, Dumb and Living off mum. They inform by showing the news, 24 hours a day on BBC News and 3 times a day on BBC 1. And educate by showing documentaries and having revision material on their website

The BBC gets its funding by license fees which everyone with a TV has to pay, it's called a TV license. This means that the BBC has to be unbias and show both sides to every story, as it's technically run by the people and government so it can't be seen to be supporting a particular side to something.

The key areas that the BBC operates in mainly Britain. However the BBC also has been broadcasted in other countries like Australia and America. 

But the BBC has it's faults. It has been involved with a few scandals that make people and newspapers (mainly the Daily Mail) angry because we're paying for it so it has to be perfect all the time. The biggest scandal has been with Jimmy Saville, the children's TV presenter who sexually abused hundreds of children and nothing was done about. 

Music Video Story Board - Task 3

This is my storyboard for the music video. It contains the shot sizes, what is happening and how long I should have it for. When filming it was important to follow this but when we edited we just used it as a rough guide, we didn't follow the times we kept it for but it was useful for putting the clips in order.

Music Video Evaluation - Task 4

We had to create a music video to any song of our choice over the period of 4 weeks. I chose the song "ho hey" by the lumineers because I thought it was a good song and it has a lot of room to experiment with it.

I think the music video idea was a very strong idea, I knew exactly what I wanted and the storyline was about friendship which most people have experienced. Me and Catie had organised everything (the equipment, props and costumes) and because it was just the two of us we knew we were in control of what we had to do.

During filming we had no problems, sometimes the camera took a long time to focus but it didn't effect the final footage. When we were filming in the park we had to keep waiting for people to walk past us so we could film. But living in London it's almost impossible to find a park with no one in it, even during the day so there's nothing we could have done differently. 

When we were editing it was quite easy, although we had a few technical issues with inserting transitions it was pretty simple to put it all together.

If we were filming again and I had to change something I guess I would take more shots of me doing something but in different angles. This would have meant we could pick which shot looks better but when we filmed it we only did one take so we didn't have that advantage.

From the feedback we got from some class members they all liked the video and the storyline but would have preferred that the two people wore completely different clothes to show they were different people. So that is something I would have also changed.

If you compared our music video to professional music videos you would be able to tell ours is amateur because of the camera quality and movements, plus the props were mostly household objects. But I don't think this takes away from the narrative and you can still tell what is happening.

MUSIC VIDEO - Task 4

Green Screen

We had to make a short video using a green screen.

The advantages of using a green screen is that you can be any where in the world, you can get a picture of space or under the sea and you can make it look like you're there.

The disadvantages is that it's hard to make it look real, like mine made it look like I was see through plus I had a greenish glow around me.

Also it's not a quick and easy thing to do it takes time and effort.

Green screen is used for telling the weather, it's can also be used to take away a body part of someone (their arm or head). It's good for appearing in a place you could not usually go to (the moon). And it can be used to make a person appear small or large depending on the picture in the background.

I also have a B in GCSE Media. I have done work experience at Starcom Mediavest in which I did advertising. In my spare time I write, direct, and perform my own YouTube videos which has given me lots of experience of editing and using cameras etc.

I understand you must get a lot of letters asking for employment but with me not only do you get a hard working student, you would get a hard working passionate student who can work independently and in a group. And who is willing to work hard to get somewhere.

8mm Film

We wanted to film something and make it look like it was from the olden days. We first filmed something which didn't have any modern things in it otherwise it would ruin the illusion. Then after putting the clips on final cut pro we put different video filters and colour correction on the clip to make it look old.

The Annoying Orange Effect

For this task we had to do the annoying orange effect. This makes it look like an object has eyes and a mouth. I used a pie for mine. To do this you had to put the pie over my face and then crop out holes for eyes and the mouth, then smooth the edges and add a tint on the face so it matches, in my case, the pie.

Slow mo

This effect is used to show slow motion but only in certain parts of a clip. It is used to put emphasis on something. I had to use someone else's clip because my final cut pro was going wrong.

 

Key Framing

Key framing is when you can move a picture or some text around the screen. 

To do this you need to drag a picture (or text) into the timeline and then in the canvas click on the picture and click the diamond button (it will say when you hover over it add motion keyframe). It will turn the lines of the picture screen and if you drag the picture to another place a line will appear which is the pictures past. As you move along with timeline and drag the picture into different places it will move.
