The 5 Shot Rule

The 5 shot rule is the fundamental building blocks for shooting. It consists of 5 shots to show what is happening in a scene. The shots are:

• Close up of the hands
• Close up of the face
• Wide shot
• Over the shoulder
• Creative shot

The reason for the 5 shot rule is because it clearly shows that is happening in the scene. If you film these shots in this order then it will always cut together.
